Our story began in 2017 with a simple idea. Two of our founding members wanted to organize a visit to a children’s home. There was no grand vision of building an organization just a genuine desire to spend time with children, share a meal, and make a difference, however small.

As they searched for a children’s home, they eventually found one and reached out to arrange a visit. During the conversation, they were asked a question they had never considered:

“Who are you? What is the name of your organization?”

The question caught them off guard.

At the time, they were simply university students a group of friends who wanted to give back to society. They had no organization, no official name, and no long-term plan. They simply promised they would get back with an answer.

A week later, one of the founders attended a Christian concert. During a moment of prayer and reflection, he heard the words “Living Out” through the concert speakers. The phrase immediately resonated with him. It captured exactly what he believed their mission should be not simply existing, but living out a life of purpose by serving others.

He couldn’t shake the name.

The following day, he called the children’s home back and simply said,

“Our organization is called Living Out.”

The inspiration behind the name was also deeply personal. At the time, the phrase “YOLO You Only Live Once” was popular among young people. Rather than seeing it as an excuse to simply enjoy life, he saw it as a reminder that if we truly only have one life, then it should be lived meaningfully. We should live out our purpose by making a positive difference in the lives of others.

With a name finally in place, the founders invited a few friends to join them for the first children’s home visit.

11 people showed up.

Looking back today, those 11 volunteers laid the foundation for everything Living Out would become.

That very first visit established the values that continue to define us today. We discovered that giving back didn’t have to feel distant or formal it could be joyful. Every visit became an opportunity to have fun together as young people, share meals with children, laugh, play games, create memories, and most importantly, build genuine relationships.

We also realized that our impact wasn’t only on the children we visited.

Something beautiful was happening among the volunteers themselves.

As we continued organizing visits, friendships grew into a family. We showed up for one another through every season of life celebrating graduations, new jobs, weddings, and the birth of children, while also standing together through moments of grief, loss, and hardship. The same spirit of compassion we extended to the communities we served became the foundation of the community we were building within Living Out itself.

What started as one visit with 11 university students slowly became something much bigger than any of us had imagined.

Today, Living Out is a thriving community of over 100 active volunteers united by a shared desire to serve. Together, we have impacted more than 500 children through children’s home visits, community outreach programs, mentorship initiatives, and acts of service.

But beyond the numbers, our greatest achievement has been building a community where people genuinely care for one another while caring for others. We believe that meaningful change begins with showing up for vulnerable children, for our communities, and for each other.

What began as a single question “What is the name of your organization?” became the beginning of a journey that continues to inspire us today.

This is the story of Living Out.

And we’re only getting started.
